ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON SUSTAINABLE RETURN

 

Under the Sustainable Return Strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Union of Associations of Refugees and IDPs of B&H organized a round-table discussion “Sustainable Return in Southern Herzegovina, with the Opportunities for Inclusion of Returnee Population into the Sustainable Forms of Agricultural Production with Secured Markets.”

"We would like to involve as many returnees as possible in our strategy, to animate the regions with developed agriculture, to sum up the results of the NGOs and associations and to present already implemented projects in agricultural production", said Mirhunisa Zukic, the President of the Union.

"This method of work provides security for the returnees, in terms of the final users of their produce, which is very important. Also, we should emphasize that these are not, by all means, social, but rather economic programmes", added Zukic.

In his statement for the press, Nezir Tanovic from the Institute of Agriculture from Sarajevo said that the Institute is involved in all phases of the primary agricultural production, therefore in the very process of sustainable return.

"We started several projects on the behalf of the Institute, such as the “Raspberry Project” and “Medicinal Herbs Project”, which were extremely successful,” said Tanovic and added that the inclusion in the primary agricultural production is the only true basis for sustainable return.

The discussion is a joint venture of the Danish Refugee Council and the Union, with the goal to empower and build the capacities of the local communities for sustainable return.
